Goodbye to Huggin' Sam
We had to say goodbye to a dearly beloved friend a few days ago.

Huggin' Sam, the 34 year old Quarter Horse mare that taught so many of our members to ride crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was beloved by many and is sorely missed by all.
Many of our Pony Club members started out on Huggie in 4H.
At the tender age of 32 she won two red ribbons with Kierna at the 2004 Maricopa County Fair 4H Finals horse show.
Then a few months later, won two more red ribbons with another rider in Flagstaff at the Coconino County Fair 4H Finals horse show. She carried one beginning rider in Phoenix in the winter, then in the spring she went back to Flagstaff and carried a different beginner in the 4H club up there.
She retired to "pasture ornament" status last winter at the age of 33.
She returned to Flagstaff in June, and is buried near her favorite pasture at Touch of the Obvious Horse Ranch near Flagstaff.
In addition to her duties as chief school horse, she was also a great brood mare. Her grandson, Patrick, and her great grandson, Sumo are still at the ranch.

Straw Sumo MMR is the senior herd stallion at the ranch.

My heart is sad to say goodbye to Huggin Sam. It is going to be strange this year to not see Huggie around...Huggie helped me alot with my horsey fears.
